Notes

Mrs. Angela Giulione calls her cookies "biscotti con zucchero sopro" (cookies with sugar on top). A co-worker from Southern Italian gave her the recipe. Nowadays, this style of cookies is often known as "tarallucci" or "lemon drops" in North American Italian pastry shops. However, the word "tarallucci" often refers to bite-sized taralli. So whether a "tarallucci" is a cookie or a taralli all depends on what it is made of and how it is cooked. Photo: Mary Melfi.
