Notes

Apparently prior to World War II "lasagna in red sauce" was not served in Molise. Rather, "lasagne in brodo" was the dish that was made for very special events such as weddings and baptisms. However, when those from Molise immigrated to North America "lasagne in red sauce" became extremely popular. Up to the 1970s hostesses did make "lasagne in brodo" for Christmas or Easter, but by the 1980s "lasagne in red sauce" became The dish to serve on major holidays.... Photo: by the contributor.
