Notes

In North America "minestrone" is generally thought of as a thick soup rather than a pasta dish or vegetable stew. However, in Italy, prior to World War II, "minestrone" was considered a meal in itself. A bit of pasta was generally added to it, though, some cooks preferred not to do so, as it the broth was "eaten up" by the pasta.
