Notes

All the books listed in this entry can be read or "viewed" for free at at www.openlibrary.org. The site includes bibliographic information on many other cook books but they are not available to view at www.openlibrary.org. Generally speaking only those books published before 1921 are in the public domain unless, of course, authors and publishers decide otherwise. The cookbooks listed in this entry can be "viewed" at www.openlibrary.org without cost but they cannot be copied or re-printed for commercial purposes. However, it seems copyright laws are rather vague when it comes to recipes published in cookbooks. As "recipes," in particular, "traditional" recipes, don't belong to individuals but are part of a country's culinary heritage, copyright laws don't necessarily apply to the ingredients named (Though they might apply to how the directions are worded). Many cookbook authors and bloggers "adapt" recipes for their own uses and often re-publish them as they see fit. Comments: Mary Melfi.
