Pears in Wine (using water, sugar, wines and flavored with cloves)

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
4 Bartlett pears
4 whole cloves
1 cup wine



Directions

Cook sugar and water together until syrupy, stirring until sugar is dissolved.

Peel pears, but leave whole with stems on.

Add wine and cloves.

Simmer gently until pears are tender, about 20 minutes.

Let chill in syrup.

Serve cold with sponge cake.

Can be served with cream.

Serves 4.
