Tortelli di San Giuseppe (St. Joseph 's Day sweet fritters, with cornmeal)

Ingredients

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons Magic baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons (fine) cornmeal
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk

Vegetable oil for deep frying

For dusting
about 1/4 cup icing sugar



Directions

o Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cornmeal.

o Beat the egg. Add the milk to the beaten egg. Mix well.

o Incorporate wet ingredients with the dry ones. Mix until the batter is smooth.

o Heat the oil.

o Take about a tablespoon of the batter and drop into the hot oil. Repeat, until there are a few in the pan. Cook until golden brown, turning the fritters over so that they are even in color.

o Drain on paper towels.

o Keep in fridge until needed.

o Dust with icing sugar before serving.
