Date Meringues
Date Meringues (using blanched almonds, powdered sugar and flavored with bitter almond extract)

Ingredients

3 egg whites
1/2 cup blanched almonds
1 1/8 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped fine
4 drops bitter almond extract




Directions

Beat egg whites till stiff, but not dry.

Add sugar gradually, then dates and almonds.

Shape with spoon on a baking sheet covered with heavy paper. Flavor with almond.

Bake 45 to 50 minutes in slow oven (around 250 F. degrees).
