Notes: The following text comes Italian Wikipedia (Machine Google translation): Feast of the Redeemer The Feast of the Redeemer in Nuoro is a traditional festival that is celebrated on the last Sunday of August, between the city and its mountain , Mount Ortobene . Is celebrated , as well as religious events, with a great show of folklore. The festival commemorates the laying of the Redeemer Statue executed by the sculptor Vincenzo Calabrese Ierace and the subsequent blessing and consecration of Mount Ortobene , which took place in 1901. The tribute to the Redeemer has in fact originated with the Jubilee of 1900, at which Pope Leo XIII wanted them to be placed over 19 peaks of Italy many images of Jesus the Redeemer . The statue, made entirely of bronze , was erected on top of Mount Ortobene August 29 , 1901 , and is the fruit of faith and generosity of the Sardinian people that quotandosi, collected the funds necessary for the construction of the statue . This is also why the Redeemer is a tribute to the party, both religious and civil folk , more authentic and rooted in the culture of central Sardinia Barbagia that always sees a huge participation from all over the island and, with increasing frequency , even from Italian and foreign tourists. The public holiday is held on the Sunday before the date of August 29 , with the parade of folk groups from different towns of Sardinia, which offer processions of figures dressed in Sardinian costumes, traditional masks, and parades of horses to crown the festival . This event is a unique opportunity to admire the beautiful traditional costumes of Sardinia, worn by groups offering choreography typical Sardinian dance, twirl enhancing its elegance, while on the streets resound launeddas music, accordion or singing a suggestive tenores.Conclude the day the folklore festival crowd that filled the amphitheater hall.
