Casacalenda, Molise, Italy
Date: 1930s?
Notes: Father Ruotolo and Brother Lucio are seen here going around blessing people's homes in the week after Easter Sunday. In his left hand Brother Lucio is holding a container of holy water; in his right hand he is holding a basket. The basket contains the eggs given by the local townspeople as thanks for the blessing of their homes. Generally, the eggs collected were given to the poor.

Notes: Here is a picture of the contributor's First Holy Communion. The reason Sue's mother could afford such a lovely dress for her daughter's First Holy Communion was because her husband was then working in Montreal, Quebec, sending money home for essentials and the occasional, luxury.
