Notes: "Cutting out embroidery on the dirty kitchen floor. Battista family, 259 E. 151 St. N.Y. On the right is the married daughter, who lives down stairs and usually works there. On her right next to the boy is Flora, said to be 9 years old and very much stunted in size. 'Been sick.' Next to her is the mother and next is Linda, 11 years old. Notes: "Home of Mrs. Rosina Schiaffo [?], 301 East 114th St. 3rd floor. She is a Contractor, getting lace from the home-workers in the neighborhood (woman in black has just brought in some work), and the lace goes to M. Web Co., a manufacturer, 230 E. 52nd Street. On the couch with Mrs. Schiaffo is seven-year-old Millie, who is learning to make lace. Father is a street-cleaner. They all work until 9 P.M. when busy and make about $2 to $2.50 a week. Father works on street, when he has work. Jennie was a truant, "I stayed home 'cause a lady was comin'." Frorandi 10 years. Maggie 11 yours. All work except two boys against wall. Father is street cleaner and has steady job. Girls work until 7 or 8 P.M. Once Maggie (11 years) worked until 10 P.M." Notes: "Mrs. Guadina, living in a rear house at 231 Mulberry St. N.Y., a dirty poverty-stricken home, and making a pittance by finishing pants. On the trunk is the work of four days. She was struggling along, (actually weak for want of food) trying to finish this batch of work so she could get the pay. There seemed to be no food in the house and she said the children had had no milk all day. The father is out of work (sells fish) on account of rheumatism.
