Montreal, Quebec, Canada | Date: made in the 1950s | Notes: Everyday objects once used by Italian farmers prior to World War II are now perceived as "antiques." Many second-generation Italian North Americans, including this contributor, use the objects to decorate their homes. In one way this is sad (Imagine the blood, sweat and tears of the poor farmers who once made use of these objects!), but in another way, it's not sad at all. Remembering one's ancestors is an act of prayer. The alternative (forgetting) is shameful and possibly downright sinful.
